2020 Grand Orchestra Play-Along
At SScOT we’ve held a summer residential week every year since 1985 – but of course this year the global health situation meant we couldn’t meet and make music together in person. However, we couldn’t let the course week pass us by without bringing people together through music – so we put together a ‘Grand Orchestra Play-Along’.
The SScOT Grand Orchestra – each and every participant, tutor and assistant on the course – always plays the last piece in our celebration concert each year. On 18th July, which would have been the end of our 2020 course, we invited musicians of all ages, all over the world, to join our tutors and assistants for a play along to one of our Grand Orchestra favourites: Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March no.4.
Throughout the week our amazing staff team put together tutorial videos working through the various parts, and at the end of the week we all played along to a track recorded by our tutors and conducted by our wind band conductor Susie Dingle. We invited everyone to send in videos of themselves taking part, which were put together for a final celebration video: watch our Grand, Grand Orchestra video here.

We sincerely hope we’ll all be back making music together in 2021 – keep an eye on our website, social media and newsletter for news about our developing plans.
